Virginia Lee Cox Skillern
Virginia Lee Cox Skillern, 96, passed away peacefully November 22, 2019, at her home surrounded by family.
Virginia was the daughter of the late James L. and Ruby Hixson Cox. She was a lifelong resident of the Hixson community. She was a 1942 graduate of Hixson High School. She resided on Skillern Drive for 70 years. “Granny” was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; a devoted homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and she was a faithful UT fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Skillern, and her brother, James E. Cox.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Robert Skillern (Robin), Covington, Louisiana and Thomas Michael Skillern, Hixson; four special grandchildren, Cameron Doyle (Graham), Andrew Skillern (Amanda), Jason Skillern and Patrick Skillern (Becky); six great grandchildren, Averie , Aidan, Sam, Jake, Rylie, and Ian. She is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Cox (Reba) and Charlotte “Toby” Gaines (Larry).
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
