McKamey Animal Center is offering a $1,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of person or person’s responsible for the shooting death of one dog and seriously injuring another dog that is currently struggling for its life as a result of two bullet wounds.
The second dog is having surgery at the owner’s veterinary clinic. Both dogs were family pets of the same family and were found close to their home.
On Dec.
11, MAC officers responded to a complaint that a dog had been shot in the 1600 block of Shore View Lane. When officers arrived at the scene on Shore View Lane, gun shots could still be heard but the source of those gun shots could not be located. The shots were believed to have come from the direction of Fairview Road.
Witnesses told officers they had heard multiple gunshots and then saw two dogs come running from the direction of Fairview Road, and as one ran past it dropped to the ground. MAC officers discovered the deceased body of a white female shepherd at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound.
The second dog was later found on Fairview Road with two gunshot wounds.
MAC officers are looking for any information that could identify the person responsible for shooting the two dogs. Officers believe the person who shot the dogs may have been a skilled marksman as both dogs were strategically shot in the same location causing serious traumatic to one dog and death to the other.
Executive Director Jamie McAloon said, “We are very concerned that anyone would shoot two family pets not to mention the danger this person posed to others by discharging a firearm in a neighborhood of families.” The neighborhood is a residential zone.
