On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, I said goodbye to the kindest friend and most loving mother a man could ever know, Doris Marie Bell-Miller, who was 95.
Mom was a child of the greatest generation. Born on January 11, 1924, she lived through the Great Depression and WWII as well as all of the triumphs and hardships that life had to offer. Due to raising her son almost by herself and while teaching, she would take on additional jobs, anything from waiting tables to cleaning toilets in order to keep food on the table.
Mom was a classically-trained concert pianist and a teacher for 60 years. Mom's musical training consisted of a long lineage of star pupils going all the way back to Chopin himself. It is very possible that Mom was the last living direct exponent of Chopin. However, mom's greatest quality is that I can honestly say, I can't remember a day when my mother had anything bad to say about a single soul behind their back. Our loss is truly heaven's gain. Until I see you again mom, I love you and goodbye.
Survivors include her son, Don (Elizabeth) Miller and granddaughter, Chloe Bell Miller, all of Ringgold, Ga.
The family will have a time of celebrating her life at her son’s home on Saturday, Dec. 14, starting at 1 PM.
