Rachel Thomas continued a career week with 20 points as the women's basketball team fell to Piedmont, 80-58, on Saturday afternoon from Cave Arena.
Thomas matched her career-high from Wednesday with 20 points to lead the Scots and Hannah Monday chipped in with 15 of her own.
Ruthie Moore pulled down eight rebounds and Cosette Kirsch had seven boards as the two guards dished out for assists each to lead Covenant (3-6, 1-1 USA South).
Thomas made a layup 12 seconds into the contest and the Lions answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead.
Piedmont (6-3, 3-0 USA South) stretched to an 18-10 lead before the Scots closed out the quarter on a 5-2 spurt to cut the gap to five.
The two teams traded buckets in the second as an Elissa Moore layup cut the lead to eight with 32 seconds left in the half. Monday then registered a block with four seconds remaining but the Lions were able to get a putback at the buzzer and took a, 41-31, lead into the break.
Piedmont began to pull away with a 12-0 run to start the second half that lasted just under five minutes. Moore hit a layup and Monday chipped in with a pair of buckets to give a six-point spurt for the Scots.
The Lions answered extending their lead to 23, the largest of the day before a technical foul led to four free throws by Covenant to trim the lead back to 19 to end the quarter.
The Scots were able to cut the lead to 12 with 4:49 left in the game with a Thomas 3-pointer, but could not get closer as Piedmont outscored the Scots 18-15 in the final period to complete the victory.
The Lions were paced by Nakiyah Washington with 25 points and Brittany Walker was the next leading scorer with 14. Ashlyn Ellison and Emily Wiley rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 each.
Piedmont edged out the Scots, 43-41, in the battle of the boards.
The Lions shot 41.5 percent (38-of-82) from the floor but a cold 3-for-23 (23.1 percent) from 3-point range. The Lions were 9-for-14 (64.3 percent) from the free-throw line.
Covenant recorded 12 assists on 23 made baskets as the Scots shot 39.7 percent (23-for-58) from the floor. The guests were 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range and shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the charity stripe.
The Scots return home for a three-game stretch as they take on Bob Jones on Wed., Dec. 10, at 6 p.m.
