WTCI invites Tennessee Valley audiences to tune in to a special episode of Explore Health featuring a discussion about the issue of heart disease being the leading cause of death among women. Presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, this locally-produced series focuses on the issues critical to the community’s health.
Hosted by Ron Harr, former president/CEO of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the second season has featured health experts exploring topics including Adverse Childhood Experiences, suicide, vaping, skin cancer, veteran’s health, Type-2 diabetes and sexually-transmitted diseases. “There is no better way to communicate public health information than through public television,” says Mr. Harr.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is the leading cause of women. In honor of Women’s Heart Health Month, Thursday at 8 p.m. host Mr. Harr will talk to cardiologists Dr. Lisa Carkner and Dr. Michael Love about the factors that lead to heart disease in women and what women can do to protect themselves.
Paul Grove, president and CEO of WTCI, expressed pride in the station’s team, saying “Our region ranks lowest in some of the most critical health issues and, as a community-licensed PBS station, we are proud to convene these conversations. This health-related content is important to our community and we are grateful for the support of our sponsors, underwriters and members who support our programming.”
"This series reflects WTCI’s commitment to local programming, strong partnerships with area business and organizations and an interactive approach to storytelling," officials said. "Viewers are engaged throughout the season, sharing questions, topics and suggestions via social media outlets and online at ExploreHealth@wtciTV.org."
Episodes are broadcast each Thursday at 8 p.m. on WTCI-PBS and audiences can also stream them online at explorehealth.wtcitv.org, including programs from Season 1 that feature topics like Alzheimer’s, mental health, digestive health, the opioid epidemic, allergies and asthma, obesity and stroke care prevention.
