  • Thursday, February 14, 2019

The WoodSongs Dalton 2019 Concert Series will host Nu-Blu with Acoustic Bones to open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at The Wink Theater in downtown Dalton.

Advance tickets for the February concert are available at the Dalton Freight Depot Gift Shop, The Ice Castle, Bigham Discount Music, online at www.woodsongsdalton.com, and at the door. Advance tickets are $18 and $22 at the door.

The concert series features emerging and established performers of Americana, Country and Bluegrass music, whose performances also benefit local non-profits. Many of the performers over the years have been Grammy nominees and recipients and most have received recognition for their talents by the International Bluegrass Music Association and SPGBMA. The concert series will be held at the Wink Theater, 115 Crawford St. in the heart of downtown Dalton. WoodSongs Dalton is sponsored in part by Friends of WoodSongs, area businesses and the Dalton Convention and Visitors Bureau. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the DEO Clinic, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit medical clinic that provides medical care to low income uninsured individuals. Proceeds up to $2,500 will be matched by Modern Woodmen of America to benefit DEO Clinic.

Review of the performers:

Hailing from Siler City, NC, Nu-Blu’s heart and soul are the husband and wife duo Daniel and Carolyn Routh. A four time IBMA Fan Fest Performing Artist, the band has been sharing its unique sound with audiences all over the world with national television appearances, chart topping songs, and over 200 days of touring each year. Nu-Blu has also had the number one most played song on Sirius/XM radio’ Bluegrass Junction in 2015, and received the coveted Carolina Music Awards Country Band of the Year in 2010.

Opening for Nu-Blu will be the duo Acoustic Bones, a fined oiled music machine that has been turning out some top notch originals. Composed of veteran flatpicking guitarist and singer Richard Bennett and singer/songwriter Leslie Bunn, the pair has already spent a lot of time recording with plans to release their first EP in the coming months. Leslie Bunn grew up in a musical family, singing in church and school by age five and playing guitar with her father and his bluegrass picking buddies by age 16. Her songs, though fresh, are rooted in tradition and one can hear the influences of vintage music.

When you compile a list of people and bands that Richard has played with, it reads like a Who’s Who of bluegrass and Americana royalty. A former member of J. D. Crowe’s New South Band, Bennett has toured with Jimmy Gaudreau, Lou Reid, Terry Baucom, and Wyatt Rice, just to name a few. Not to mention special appearances with folks like Bobby Osborne. When paired with Leslie’s rhythm guitar and heartfelt and soulful singing the effect is “magical”.
