Cula "Cleta" Goodwin
Cula “Cleta” Peavy Goodwin (also affectionately known as “C.C.”) passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, in the comfort and peace of her own home in Chattanooga, Tennessee, surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 69.
Cleta was born on Feb. 5, 1950, in Chattanooga to Warb and Evia Peavy.
She was a proud “Hustling Tiger” at Howard High School and graduated in the class of 1967. After graduating from Howard, she attended Chattanooga City College (now UTC) and joined UTC’s Zeta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in 1972. Cleta worked at General Motors Acceptance Corporation and Chattanooga Public Schools.
Cula Goodwin is survived by her daughters, Charla Monique Goodwin and Stacy Goodwin Lightfoot (Chattanooga); her grandson and the love of her life, Dallas Jeffrey Lightfoot (Chattanooga); sisters Pernella P. Lee (Chicago) and Marvis P. McKeldin (Chattanooga); sister-in-law, Tomasa Peavy (Lumberton, NC); nephew Michael Lee (Chicago); nieces, LaChiara (Dedric) Landrum (Smyrna, TN) and Monika (Jean) Larrieux (Chicago); aunts, Warner Nero (Chicago); Grace (Lawyer) Stanton (Pensacola, FL) and Mabel Hyde (Cincinnati); and, a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, and a very special childhood friend, Hilda “Sue” Richards.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will conduct the Ivy Beyond The Wall Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 21.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6-7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, and again on Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at New United Missionary Baptist Church.
The funeral service will follow at noon at the church. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
