Rees Skillern Cancer Institute at CHI Memorial will host a PROMPT party this Friday from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Rees Skillern Cancer Institute’s Cancer Risk and Survivorship Center, 605 Glenwood Dr., Suite 307 in Chattanooga. PROMPT, which stands for Prospective Registry of Multiplex Testing, is a patient-driven registry that will help answer questions about genetic test results.
PROMPT is a collaborative effort between academic institutions and commercial labs. The registry provides those who have alterations in genes associated with cancer risk, physicians and researchers a place to share information that will lead to a better understanding of genetic changes and help researchers develop a way to manage risks associated with those alterations, officials said.
During the PROMPT party at Rees Skillern Cancer Institute, participants will be guided through the enrollment process and meet others who may have a genetic risk for cancer. Participants will provide data by filling out a questionnaire about their personal and family health histories. Participants need to bring their own laptop or tablet, test results and pedigree, which is a picture of your family’s medical history. Staff will be available to help each person enroll.
There is no charge to attend. Light snacks will be provided. For more information, call 423-495-GENE (4363).
