Waggoner Pleads Guilty To 2nd-Degree Murder In 2016 Death Of Bradley Aaron Powell, Whose Body Was Found On Lookout

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 - by Judy Frank

The trial of the Chattanooga man accused of killing Bradley Aaron Powell in 2016 was supposed to begin Tuesday.

Instead, 24-year-old Cody Waggoner entered the Marion County Courthouse in Jasper and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Mr.

Powell’s death. He was sentenced to 38 years in prison, and taken immediately to the county jail to begin that incarceration.

Waggoner, who left the courtroom in tears, admitted killing Mr. Powell and then burying his body.

Mr. Powell disappeared in late 2016, and was reported missing by his family to the Chattanooga Police Department on Dec. 7 of that year.

The ensuing complicated investigation involved a variety of  law enforcement agencies including Red Bank Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Walker County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Department, the  Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Bureau Of Investigation and the offices of the 11th and 12th District Attorneys General in Tennessee.

The dead man’s body was found Feb. 3, 2017, buried in a shallow grave on Waggoner family property near the top of Nickajack Road on Lookout Mountain in Georgia.

Investigators determined, however, that his murder had taken place in the River Canyon Road area of Marion County in Tennessee and in August 2017 a Marion County Grand Jury indicted Waggoner for first-degree murder.

Just had dinner Tuesday night at Jonathan's Grille location in Hendersonville, Tn. When in Murfreesboro or Nashville, it's one of my favs. Just a great sports bar concept and menu. So happy to hear the Revelette brothers are bringing their brand (and their pizza night) to the old 212 Market location in downtown Chattanooga. Bring it on! Garry Mac (click for more)

Roy Exum: The Saturday Funnies

As I stood in the checkout line of the Walmart in Tiftonia this week, my newest friend named Harold asked me, “What’s the difference between an outlaw and an in-law. As I searched my mind, Harold responded, “Outlaws are wanted!” I immediately accepted his joke as a good omen. It helps me to remind readers of The Saturday Funnies, I just collect them during the week and pass them ... (click for more)

CFC Falls To Detroit City, 2-1

Alun Webb found himself in a familiar setting: streaking down the pitch on a breakaway in the 7. After Juan Hernandez’s lead pass led him past the defense, Webb’s only obstacle was the prowling Detroit City goalkeeper. As he entered the box, Webb slowed down ever so slightly, and began to load up for the inevitable volley. That shot never came, as Detroit’s Tendai Jirira ... (click for more)
