James Calvin Combs, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019. He had lived in the Chattanooga area for most of his life, and was of the Baptist faith. He served his country in the Navy before retiring in 1965, and was then employed with American National Insurance Company as a district manager before retiring in 1991, after more than 20 years of service. He was a loving and devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Mary Combs; daughter, Connie Baker; and several siblings.
Survivors include his loving wife of more than 43 years, Iris Schendlordz Combs; children, Nancy Mason, Deborah Dillinger, Mary Harris, Kathy Cagle and Diane Mejia; sister, Sarah Blount; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 3 p.m. on Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
