John Robert Whitten, 76, died Friday, February 22, 2019.

He was born November 29, 1942, in Chattanooga to John and Madeliene Whitten.

He graduated from City High School in 1960 and attended UTC for two years before joining the National Guard. He worked at American National Bank and Jax's Liquor Store.

He is survived by his brothers Richard and Stephen ( Lind) Whitten; sister Joy Ward ( Richard) Hempy of Chattanooga; niece Kendall Ward ( Brad) Rogers of Lexington, SC.; nephews David ( Kim) Hempy of Chattanooga and Brian Hempy of Columbia SC; and their Children Karis and Brycen Hempy, Nolan and Connor Hempy and Berkeley Rogers.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
