John Alonza Lewis, Jr., passed away on February 27, 2019.
He was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Chattanooga Tennessee. He was the oldest of eight children. He was born to Cleo Davis Lewis and John Lewis, Sr.
John attended public schools in Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Howard High School, and received his Bachelor Degree of Mathematics and Engineering from Tennessee Agricultural Industrial Normal School on Aug. 28, 1962. After completing college, he worked in Chicago, and Madison Wisconsin as a surveyor for 10 years. He moved back to Chattanooga and gained employment with the SEP Program where he taught Adult Basic Education classes.
His parents, John (Cleo) Lewis Sr.; brothers, William, and Robert Lewis; sisters, Ann Robinson, Lydia Averheart, Cleo Lewis, and Pinky Williams preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memories are one loving daughter, Johnetta (Melvin) Langston; son, John (Sinita) Lewis III; four grandchildren, Javarious Langston, Brittany Langston, Briauna Langston, and Rinaya Canion. One, great grandson Jai'Veon Langston all of Chattanooga; brother, Leo (Charlesetta) Lewis of Savannah; sister, Barbara Jean Turney of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Geraldine Lewis of Sumter, SC; four nieces, Barbara Turney, Lydia Terrence, Rhonda Isaac, and Rachel Williams; two nephews, Rodney Lewis, and Randy Williams all of Chattanooga; a host of cousins, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 15, in the chapel.
