Timeless Jazz for this Sunday celebrates the centennial of Nat King Cole's birth on March 17, 1919.
"Before he became a popular singer, he was a renowned jazz pianist and vocalist, who was very much in demand before he focused on singing in the last fifteen years of his career," officials said.
Most of the music comes from the 18 CD (and long unavailable) boxed set The Complete Capitol Recordings of the Nat King Cole Trio, in addition to transcriptions, broadcasts and live recordings. It will include both instrumentals and vocals, though the primary focus is from 1938 to 1956.
The program can be streamed live at wutc.org as it airs from 3-5 p.m. this Sunday, or via the WUTC HD-2 channel available on the website on Wednesday, March 20, from 10 a.m.-noon.
