Firefighters Rescue Dog Trapped In Wall

Thursday, March 14, 2019
Chattanooga firefighters got an unusual call around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Hixson.

Bella, a long-haired, toy Dachshund, got into the house's attic to chase a squirrel. While chasing it around the attic, Bella fell through an opening into an interior wall between the den and master bedroom. Bella's owners could hear her yelping in the wall and could not figure out a way to get her out, so they called the fire department.

Captain Andy Blevins and his firefighters with Engine 11 brought in a ladder and used a saw to cut an opening in the wall.
Seconds later, SFF Shawn Roach was able to pull Bella out. He was unsure what the dog might do, so he handed it off quickly to Firefighter Brandon McCully, who was waiting below to catch it. Bella was not injured and the owners were extremely grateful for the firefighters' efforts.

What Is That Smell?

A septic tank functions beautifully until it doesn't. When a septic tank or field line ceases to function properly, E. coli and other bacteria will leak. It can move into the surrounding land or ground water. Anyone who has lived next door to a home with a progressively failing septic system will eventually notice the smell of sewage when it discharges. Raw sewage can leak for long ... (click for more)

Our Roads Need To Be Repaired For Ironman - And Response

Chattanooga being a finalist for the 2021 Ironman is great news. The business gained at the local bicycle repair shops from bent rims, busted tires and warped frames should produce some great local revenue. The local physicians should see a surge as well from the twisted ankles and busted up knees from dips, humps and pot holes on our area roads that could swallow a small child. ... (click for more)
