Area high school students were honored on Thursday at the Awards Program for the Youth Photography Showcase, sponsored by the Photographic Society of Chattanooga.

Students from 12 schools filled the sanctuary at St. John UMC for the event. Schools were Baylor, Boyd Buchanan, Bradley Central, Chattanooga Christian, Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts, Chattanooga State Collegiate High, Girls Preparatory School, Hamilton Middle High, Home Schools, McCallie, Notre Dame, and Silverdale Baptist Academy.

With two Best of Shows – Print Division: “The Cathedral “ by Keoni Varlack, Home School, and Digital Division: “A Living Reflection” by Riley Evans, Silverdale Baptist Academy, there were other students who placed in six categories in both print and digital divisions. Images totaled 413 digital images, submitted by 67 students, and 288 prints, submitted by 58 students.

This was the 13th year PSC has sponsored the photography contest for high school students. Some images from this local contest are forwarded to the Photographic Society of America to compete with students from around the world. Those who placed here will be displayed at the Hunter Gallery of American Art in the Education Hall in August. These images, as well as winners from past contests, may also be viewed online at http://chattanoogaphoto.org/activities/contests/youth-photography/  in the next few days.
