Playing its second doubleheader in as many days, the Covenant softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Emory on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action. Emory took game one, 8-0, before holding on for an 11-7 victory in the finale.

The losses drops Covenant to 7-10 overall on the year. Emory goes to 10-4 on the season.

GAME ONE: Emory 8, Covenant 0

Emory scored four runs in the third inning and three in the fifth to pull away for an 8-0 win over Covenant in five innings.

Emory starter Madison Schaefer (4-1) tossed 4.2 hitless innings before Covenant's Shelby Ralston and Madyson Gibbins strung together back-to-back singles in the fifth.
Those were the only hits allowed by Schaefer as she picked up the win going all five innings and striking out two.

The visiting Eagles scored a run in the first on a Cassie Baca RBI single. Emory then scored four runs in the third, with Sarah Katz's three-run triple the big hit in the inning, before scoring three more times in the fifth to seal the win.

Sarah Huskey (2-3) made the start for the Scots and went 3.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Ralston was 1-for-2, while Gibbins was 1-for-1 with a walk in the loss.

Katz finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs and Meghan Murphy also drove in two runs for Emory,

GAME TWO: Emory 11, Covenant 7

Down 8-2 in the sixth inning, Covenant rallied to get within a run but Emory would score three more runs in the seventh to hold on for an 11-7 victory and complete the doubleheader sweep.

Trailing by six runs late, the Scots had their biggest inning of the day. Covenant sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs on four hits to get within a run at 8-7. Each of the first five batters in the inning reached as Ralston worked a bases loaded walk to bring home Faith Manning before Gibbins produced an infield, RBI single that plated Jada Allmon.

Aileen Hill kept the inning alive with her RBI single to left field that scored Hannah Talley to make it 8-5. With two outs, Covenant caught a break as Erika Mast's shallow fly ball to right field was dropped allowing both Gibbins and Ralston to score to draw the Scots within 8-7.

Emory tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 11-7 and the Scots were unable to pull together another rally in the bottom of the inning.

Ralston went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, while Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Cassee Wood, Hill, Allmon, and Talley all had a hit each. Carsyn Stone (2-7) made the start and went a total of 4.1 innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Lauren Kierpa tossed 1.1 scoreless innings without surrendering a hit.
