A man who earlier pleaded guilty to wire fraud in an investment fraud has been sentenced to 29 months in federal prison.
Michael Curtis O'Brien also must repay those he took money from $243,350.
He will be on supervised release for three years after he is released from prison.
Authorities said O'Brien made false claims about a device called a "Topper Off" that he said would allow a single user to remove the hard top of certain Jeep brand SUVs.
They said he falsely claimed that the device was in mass production and that a global manufacturing company had made mass orders.
He obtained money from a number of investors under false pretense, it was stated.
He mainly used the money for automobile purchases and home mortgage payments.
He was represented by attorney Stevie Phillips.
Sentencing was by Judge Curtis Collier.
