The groundbreaking ceremony for the new East Hamilton Middle School will give participants a high-tech experience of touring the school before the first brick is in place.
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, at 1 p.m. on the property on Bentwood Cove Drive behind Apison Elementary.
The community is invited to the ceremony where the architect firm MBI Companies, Inc. will have a tent set up with virtual reality goggles that will allow participants to take a virtual reality tour of the new East Hamilton Middle School.
Speakers at the event will include Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger, Sabrena Smedley, chairman of the Hamilton County Commission and representative of District 7; Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools; Joe Wingate, chairman of the Hamilton County Board of Education and representative for District 7; a representative from MBI Companies; and a parent from the community.
East Hamilton Middle School is a major project in the $125 million building plan approved by the Hamilton County Board of Education in October 2017. The Hamilton County Commission approved funding of East Hamilton Middle and other district building projects to address school facility needs earlier in 2017.
