The Lee University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger, will perform its final concert of the spring semester on Tuesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The concert will recreate Wind Ensemble's inaugural concert, which occurred 20 years ago on Oct. 18, 1999. Back then, Wind Ensemble was unique among Lee ensembles because of its dedication to performing music in concert halls rather than in churches.

"The first concert was a military band length performance, which included an intermission, something the School of Music Dean was very skeptical of," said Dr. Holsinger. "He was sure everyone would leave at the break and not return."

"To my relief, everyone came back and the concert was a striking success, especially to the young musicians themselves," continued Dr. Holsinger. "So much so, that we gained nine new players by the second concert of the semester."

The concert will include "Sea Songs" by Ralph Vaugh Williams, "Symphony No. 3" by Vittorio Giannini, "Nobles of the Mystic Shrine" by John Philip Sousa, "Irish Tune from County Derry" and "Mock Morris" by Percy Grainger, and "Abram's Pursuit" and "Scootin' on Hardrock" by Holsinger.

The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion. It is a non-traveling ensemble that performs for special concerts on the Lee University campus throughout the year.

The concert will be free, open to the public, and available for livestream viewing at livestream.com/leeu
