UTC Soccer Wraps Up Spring Season

Monday, April 15, 2019
The Chattanooga women's soccer team played a full slate of friendlies this spring and included two home dates.

The Mocs faced off against Kennesaw State, Tennessee, Austin Peay and Middle Tennessee on the road while hosting Tennessee Tech, Bryan and West Georgia.

"We set a challenging schedule for the squad and we felt we got a lot out of the spring," Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. "The girls worked extremely hard. We think we're starting to form a really identifiable way of playing when we have the ball and also without the ball.
We're happy with the way the small group we had worked throughout the spring."

As is the case in the spring, McKinney moved players around to try them out at different positions. Lauren Dluzewski who normally plays a forward or midfield position was tried out as a defender and Maddie Burman moved to a forward position.

"We challenged a few of the players by playing them in different positions as we foresee them playing different roles in the future," McKinney said. "That can be an uncomfortable thing, but those individuals really grew throughout the spring. Lauren being one of them at center back. Anna Moore [Rogers] at right back. Maddie Burman we played further forward. All in all, the entire squad had open minds and improved tactically as the spring went."

The Mocs worked on improving on both sides of the ball and McKinney was happy to see progression on both the offensive and defensive sides

Roy Exum: The Mendicant’s Poem

Anthony de Mello, a Jesuit monk before he died in 1972, would have us to believe, “I was neurotic for years. I was anxious and depressed and selfish. Everyone kept telling me to change. I resented them and I agreed with them, and I wanted to change, but simply couldn't, no matter how hard I tried. “Then one day someone said to me, “Don't change. I love you just as you are,” Tony ...
