CGLA co-founder Dr. Sue Anne Wells wrote a song inspired by the duality of two of her life’s passions: serving young women and girls of Chattanooga and saving the Wild American Mustang through Mustang Leadership Partners. Thanks to a partnership with CGLA, MLP invites select students to a local farm to ride, take care of and study horses after school on Wednesdays. Dr. Wells, after discovering their vocal talent, enlisted two CGLA juniors who participate in the program, Mya Humphrey and Justice Agnew, to record her song “Mustang Pride” for professional release. The group underwent the entire production process from studio recording to the shooting of the music video. Click here for a site devoted to the song.
Work began when Dr. Wells reached out to producer Ric Robbins in Nashville to create a pop-beat to go along with her lyrics. Once the beat had been created, Ms. Humphrey and Ms. Agnew traveled to record the song in Robbins’s studio in Nashville. Dr. Wells believed the music video was merely the result of a natural progression in the creative process, saying, “It seems only fitting that a music video would follow alongside the song ‘Mustang Pride.’”
After the song had been recorded, Dr. Wells welcomed Chattanooga-based Vityl Media Group to a local farm to film the accompanying music video. After transforming the farm and main barn into a production studio, the girls began recording the music video for “Mustang Pride.” Starring alongside the girls were several Mustangs ridden by trained barn staff. After what Ms. Agnew claimed felt like “over one-hundred takes,” the shoot was done. Of the production process, Ms. Humphrey said, “I did not think it was going to require as much work as it did.” Similarly, Ms. Agnew said, “I now have a profound respect for vocal music artists and also the crew behind the cameras.”
“Mustang Pride” is available for purchase through iTunes and for streaming on Spotify and Amazon Music. The music video is available for streaming on YouTube. All proceeds benefit students of CGLA.
