Larry H. Matthews, 72, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning, April 21, 2019.

He was a 1965 graduate of Hixson High School and known by many who knew him and loved him by the nickname “Thews”. He joined the Army July 2, 1966, and proudly served his country until June 11, 1969, as an operating room tech. After leaving the military he went to work and retired from Tennessee American Water Company after 31 years of service. He was a member and deacon at the New Heights Baptist Church in Ringgold. He seemed the happiest when he was visiting the hospitals and volunteering at Life Care Center in Hixson, because of his servants heart. His favorite pastimes were loving on his three fur babies, sitting chatting, and visiting with so many wonderful friends, family and church members.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Cleo Layne Matthews and his beloved nephew, Matthew Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Teresa and many friends, cousins, adopted and extended family.

Visitation will be at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson, from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, to reminisce, grieve, and support each other.

The funeral service will be in the Chattanooga Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 24, at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Dan Hamby officiating, followed by the interment service at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
