George Kimball Thompson
George Kimball "Kim" Thompson, 67, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, on Good Friday, April 19, 2019.
He was a vital part of the Chattanooga arts and music community for five decades as a baritone vocalist, actor, and arts educator. He performed with the Choral Arts of Chattanooga, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Chattanooga Theatre Center, and Signal Mountain Playhouse. He taught at Red Bank High and Middle, Central High and Daisy Elementary.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Albritton; his children, Brent (Amanda) Thompson, Kellye (Jason) Fowlkes, and Alex Thompson; stepchildren, Zach (Bronwyn) Hollis and Olivia (Hunter) Shankle; grandchildren, Logan, Pearl, Boyd, Brauer, Crew, and Beckham; his brothers, Steve (Cheryl) Thompson and Tim (Lauri) Thompson; his aunt, Nannelle (Charlie) Griffith; several cousins; and nephews and a niece.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Second Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 2–5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Choral Arts of Chattanooga in Kim’s honor.
