Carroll “Odd Ball” Richard Sayler, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of Ringgold. He is a retired truck driver and was known for his one-liners, “The sun is shinin’, the birds are singin’, the grass is growin’ and I’m a mowin'” and “If you need me, I’ll call you.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Henderson Sayler; parents, Charlie Edward and Mildred Lucille Holloway Sayler; and sister, Joyce Cooper.
Survivors include his children, Melanie (Dwight) Horn, of East ridge and Michael Sayler, of Chattanooga; brother, Ed (Gerry) Sayler, of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, April Curtin, Tiffany (Daniel) Groves and Diana Appleby; great-grandchildren, Tracy (Brent) Farthing, Danielle (C.J.) Coley, Brogan and Stella Maxine Groves, Emma, Ellie and John Appleby; great-great-grandchildren, Tristan Coley and Lincoln Farthing; and special companion, Jean.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Monday April 22 and after 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel, with Pastor Hoyt Williams and Waymon Chambers officiating. Entombment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
