The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is the Hamilton Book of the week. The Fault in Our Stars was nominated by Ann Rox, the librarian at Brown Middle School.
Rox said, "The students like this book because it is realistic fiction, the writer uses very vivid details and descriptions; it involves romance and has an unexpected ending. They also like to compare the book to the movie.”
The book is a young-adult fiction novel that is narrated by Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old girl with thyroid cancer that has affected her lungs. Hazel is forced by her parents to attend a support group where she subsequently meets and falls in love with 17-year-old Augustus Waters, an amputee who is currently in remission. The Fault in Our Stars was developed into a movie in 2014, and both the book and its film adaptation had strong critical and commercial success.

Hamilton Book of the Week seeks to move Hamilton County Schools closer to district goals found in the Future Ready 2023 action plan. We hope to encourage kids to read more books for fun by sharing books popular at area schools.
District goals more students reading will address include:
- Reading improvement will increase the number of students on-track or mastering English language arts
- Improve the district ACT score to a district average of 21
- Reach the target goal of a 90 percent graduation rate by 2023
