A new local non-profit is launching a free educational event series about community and government issues impacting Chattanooga. Their first public event is titled “The History, Philosophy and Abuse of Eminent Domain,” and will be held Tuesday, April 30 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Public Library First Floor Auditorium. The brief presentation will be followed by a time of questions and answers.
Eminent Domain is the power of the government to take private property for public use if they provide compensation to the property owners.
“Eminent Domain has been in the local news lately.
It’s something that would seem to bump into the citizen’s right to private property. TVA came through here years ago and took vast acreage for rivers, lakes and power lines. It was considered necessary but hurt many families. All citizens should know the story and application of eminent domain,” said Hamilton Flourishing President Doug Daugherty.
The speaker and discussion leader for Tuesday’s event, Adam Sanders, is an attorney practicing in the Chattanooga area, and was selected as a Rising Star for 2018. Mr. Sanders’ practice focuses on Eminent Domain issues, but also includes legal issues including business litigation and communications.
