Former Senator Bob Corker To Speak At UT’s Baker Center

  • Tuesday, April 23, 2019
Former U.S. Senator Bob Corker will hold a town hall discussion this week at UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy as part of the center’s Baker Distinguished Lecture Series.

The event will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Toyota Auditorium and is open to the public.

“We are very excited about the upcoming visit by Senator Corker,” said Matt Murray, director of the Baker Center. “This will be a tremendous opportunity to hear remarks from a great American statesman in a period of political volatility.”

During his time in the senate, Mr.
Corker served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was a member of the Senate Banking Committee and Senate Budget Committee. Before he was elected to the Senate in 2006, he served as mayor of Chattanooga and Tennessee’s commissioner of finance.

Prior to entering public service, Mr. Corker was an entrepreneur and real estate developer who began his career by starting a construction company at the age of 25.  He graduated from UT in 1974 with a degree in industrial management.

The Baker Distinguished Lecture Series was established in 2012 to recognize the contributions of notable individuals and promote the values of Senator Howard. H. Baker, Jr.  Past guests have included U.S. Senator George Mitchell of Maine, retired NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Secretary of the Treasury John Snow.
