James Guy Copp, 78, entered heaven peacefully with his loving wife, Jane, at his side on Friday, April 19, 2019.  “Good Friday” was indeed good for heaven for they welcomed an incredibly loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.

Jim touched everyone’s heart. He treated all with kindness and deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren. His love and support of his grandchildren will always be cherished for he never missed a ball game, Raider competition, awards ceremony or cheerleading competition.

Jim was born on April 30, 1940, to Charlsie Smith and Guy Peter Copp in Petersburg, Va., and moved to Chattanooga when he was seven.  He attended City High School, class of 1958, where he was the co-captain of the football team and earned All-City honors.  He graduated from Tennessee Technological University as one of the first Co-Op students.  He worked as a professional civil engineer and land surveyor including eight years with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, 28 years with TVA, and 25 years as president of Copp Engineering Group. He served in the Tennessee National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve.

Jim married Jane Bragg, who was his best friend and business partner.  His son, David and business partner and daughter, Pam were loved and coached in all sports by Jim, who was always involved in supporting them in their endeavors.

Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane, son, David (Robin) and daughter, Pam Capehart, grandchildren, Zac and Wes (Jinni) Copp and Callie and Will Capehart, Brother, Bill (Mary) Copp and very special nephew Jay White.

The family appreciates your condolences and prayers. Due to Jim’s love of his pets, we request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pet Placement Center or St. Jude.

All services will be held privately.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, 423 877-3524, Lanefh.com.
