Nichols, Doris Marie Rollins (Ringgold)

Doris Marie Rollins Nichols, 94, of Ringgold, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019. A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, she was a graduate of Ringgold High School and a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church for 50 years. Doris lived a life of giving. In 1948 her and her husband Fred had a daughter, Mary Bell, who was invalid and for 15 years she cared for her day and night while taking care of the rest of the family. When Mary Bell passed away, Doris enrolled in LPN School at Hamilton Medical Hospital, after which time she served for 25 years at the hospital in the pediatric ward. After retiring, she took care of her husband, Fred, who came down with Parkinson’s disease, until he passed away in 2007. 

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Aldon Nichols; daughter, Mary Bell Nichols; parents, Oscar and Ruby Silvey Rollins; and brother, Oscar Rollins Jr. 

She is survived by three sons, James A. (Cherie) Nichols, of Canton, Samuel W. (Melinda) Nichols, of Collierville and Daniel W. (Melody) Nichols, of Ringgold; sister, Aline Hannah, of Hixson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26 at the Ringgold First Baptist Church, with Pastor Eric Kennedy officiating. She will lie-in-state Friday at the church from 1-2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, Doris has requested donations be made to the Youth and Children’s Ministries at Ringgold First Baptist Church.
