Lee University’s Faculty Brass Quintet will perform on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall. 

The quintet features Dr. Nathan Warner and Lee senior Jonathan Bishop on trumpet, Gordon James on horn, Dr. Douglas Warner on trombone, and Don Strand on tuba. They will be accompanied by Mary Beth Wickes on piano. 

Dr. Nathan Warner, an assistant professor of music at Lee, has performed with the Chattanooga Symphony, the Knoxville Symphony, Lady Antebellum, Doc Severinsen, Peter Cetera, Clay Aiken, and Slide Hampton. Prior to Lee, he was an instructor of trumpet at the Manhattan School of Music Pre College in New York City. He is also an endorsed Bach Trumpet Artist. 

Mr. James currently serves as an adjunct horn instructor at Lee, as well as University of Chattanooga and Southern Adventist University. He is also the principal horn of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. He has been playing and teaching horn for over 30 years. 

Dr. Doug Warner serves as chair of the Department of Music Performance Studies and professor of music at Lee. He has been principal trombonist of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera since 1985. From 1986 to 1997, he was a member of the King’s Brass, a touring ensemble with which he recorded four albums. 

Mr. Strand currently holds principal tuba positions with the Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Opera, and Columbus Symphony, among others. He has been a fixture in the southeastern music scene for nearly 40 years, performing with orchestras, Broadway shows, and headliners, such as Bruce Springsteen and Hans Zimmer. 

Ms. Wickes has worked at Lee University in both administrative and musical roles since 1986. She currently serves as director of accompanying for the School of Music, supervising both staff and student accompanists. She received Lee University’s 2018 Honorary Alumna of the Year award and Cleveland State Community College’s 2017 Community Service in the Arts Award.
