The United Auto Workers International is again trying to organize a union at the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant, an attempt that last failed in 2014.
A petition was filed Tuesday by Volkswagen employees with the National Labor Relations Board, requesting a election for its workers.
It is an effort to organize the hourly employees. There are currently approximately 1,400 employees, with plans to increase that with a new line manufacturing an electric car.
At an employee meeting on March 20, Volkswagen Chattanooga announced a $.50 base wage increase for all Volkswagen production team members. New hires will begin at $16 with a top-out of $23.50. The pay increase goes into effect July 1.
