Chattanooga Police said a Ringgold, Ga., contractor took $350,000 from a woman for home remodeling and did not perform the work.
Donald Esterbrook McKenna, 40, was charged with theft of property over $60,000 and contractor's misapplication of payments.
Police initially got a call from Nivin Todd last August "wanting to put a fraud charge" on McKenna.
Ms. Todd said in June 2017 she signed contracts with McKenna to start work on her house on Royal Mountain Drive to replace gutters, vinyl siding, windows, doors and other exterior work.
She said McKenna started taking down gutters and siding in December 2017, then left and never returned.
She said she is "out $350,000."
Police found that McKenna received from Ms. Todd checks of $20,784, $20,749 and $41,497 to order doors and windows. Ms. Todd said he never placed the orders.
She said she made numerous attempts to contact him, but got no reply. She said she drove to his business in February 2018 and it was closed.
