BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will wrap the inaugural year of its participation in the Project SEARCH program with a May 22 graduation event for Hamilton County special education students who completed internships.
Project SEARCH gives high-functioning young adults with intellectual or learning disabilities the opportunity to develop life and professional skills needed to seek competitive employment.
Over the past nine months, the five Hamilton County students chosen for the program at BlueCross rotated through a series of jobs that offered exposure to a variety of work tasks.
The 45-minute graduation event will include brief remarks from BlueCross leaders as well as Garfield Adams, the director of special education for Hamilton County Schools. The interns will each have the opportunity to make brief remarks as they accept their certificates.
