Jill Hindman, a tireless advocate for those with disabilities and a longtime CARTA board member, died Saturday at her home in Hixson. She was 62.
Born with spina bifida, she worked as a disability coach and consultant.
Ms. Hindman was named by Mayor Ron Littlefield to the city's first Disability Council in 2006.
She was one of the leaders of the annual Go!Fest event focusing on those with disabilities.
John Bilderback, CARTA board chairman, said, "CARTA learned of the passing of long time board member of 26 years, community leader, and advocate of accessibility-for-all, Jill Hindman. Jill served our Chattanooga community for decades lending her voice for those who can often be overlooked or marginalized.
"Her dedication to improving access for people with disabilities has left its mark on not just CARTA but the countless community boards and advisory committees she served on. Many people in Chattanooga and Hamilton County may not know the impact Jill had on their lives, but those who worked with her will. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jill, her family, and friends."
