Louis "Louie" Turner Anderson, 71, of Jasper, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019, following complications from surgery.

Louie was born in Chattanooga and raised in South Pittsburg, Tenn. His father owned local clothing stores and his mother taught first grade at South Pittsburg Elementary for 35 years. His family was a pioneer family of Marion County, having first settled in the area in 1819.

Louie attended school in South Pittsburg and graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tn., in 1966. He attended college at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tn., and graduated from pharmacy school at Samford University in Birmingham, Al. While at Samford, he met the love of his life, Brenda Neal. The two were married for more than 47 years. Louie and Brenda have lived in Jasper since 1972 and raised their family there, surrounded by extended family and friends. Louie worked for forty-three years as a retail pharmacist in Marion County at Blevins’ Pharmacy, Jasper Drug, Revco (CVS), and Wal-Mart. Since his retirement in 2014, he became actively involved in the South Pittsburg Historical Society, the Jasper History Museum, the Jasper Lions Club, and the Holly Market, a food bank operated by Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg, where he and Brenda are members.

Louie began long-distance running in the late 70s and made running a habit in all the years that followed, becoming a familiar face at the jogging track in Jasper. He completed one marathon, several half-marathons, and countless other races. He ran his final 5k race in Cleveland, Tenn., the last weekend of March 2019. He enjoyed traveling, current events, and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers. A beloved father, husband, and friend, he will be missed by many and will be remembered most for his humor, selflessness, integrity, and kindness.

Louie was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Woodard Turner Anderson; father, Jasper Dallas Anderson; brother, Jasper Dallas Anderson Jr.; niece, Nancy Kathryn McConnell; and half-sisters, Virginia Anderson McConnell and Dorothy Anderson Longley. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Louis Neal (Ashley) Anderson; daughter, Karen Anderson (John) Jolley; grandson Watson ("Watts") Neal Anderson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper on Thursday, May 23, from 4-7:30 p.m. (Central). A service celebrating the life of Louie Anderson will be held at 11 a.m. (central) at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg on Friday, May 24. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O. Box 188, Greeneville, Tn. 37744.
