Steve Deboyce Coxwell, 83, of Fort Oglethorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, surrounded by family members and loved ones. He was born in Tallapoosa, Ga. in 1935, and attended Lakeview High School in Ft. Oglethorpe. Steve joined the Army in 1954 and served his country for three years as an Army MP, being deployed to Japan and achieving the rank of sergeant. Following his military service he joined the National Guard until 1962. He married Patricia Hale in 1959 and had two daughters, Cynthia and Barbara. The family lived in Ft. Oglethorpe, where Steve and Patricia worked in the family business, Hale Iron Works. He was active in several churches, serving as a deacon at both Welcome Hill Baptist and Delray Baptist. Steve retired, then worked part-time as bailiff at the Catoosa County Court House. He love the Lord, his family, fishing, gardening and the Georgia Bulldogs.
He is survived by is wife of 60 years, Patricia; daughters, Cindy Judd (Bobby) and Barbara Rieger (Mark); sister, Wilma Rodgers (Charles); grandsons, Wesley Coxwell and Robert Judd; granddaughter, Ashley Beckwith (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Dawson, Alex and Aria Beckwith. Also, many friends and other relatives survive.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24 from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 25 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, Parkridge Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on Battlefield Parkway, Ft. Oglethorpe, with service by Steve Brandon. He will be buried in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Gardens in Rossville.
