Smith Seeks To Place 6-Month Moratorium On Electric Scooters In Chattanooga

  • Tuesday, June 18, 2019

City Councilman Ken Smith said he is seeking a six-month moratorium on scooters in Chattanooga.

The City Council earlier turned thumbs down on the scooters that some members said have caused multiple problems - and some deaths - in other cities. They are allowed in the state's other three large cities.

However, a new state law that takes effect July 1 is favorable to electric scooter operators.

Councilman Smith said he wants the council to consider his resolution before then.

He said that would give time for the council to determine how best to regulate the scooters, if they cannot be banned altogether.
