Edward “Ed” George Murray, Jr. died on June 11, 2019.

He was born on January 22, 1959, to the late Willie Sue and Edward Murray, Sr, in Chattanooga. He accepted Christ at a young age and became closer to Christ as he grew older. He had attended Rock Island Baptist Church and New Covenant Church for many years.

As a young man, Ed received many accolades while playing football for Howard High School, where he graduated in 1978. Prior to his illness, Ed worked at Lookout Plating and as a quality inspector at Wheland Foundry. Ed loved football, playing Bingo, and auctions. He also enjoyed playing Wii bowling. Ed traveled with the Chaplain of Summit View to read books to school-aged children.

In addition to his parents, his death was preceded by his sister, Mary Evelyn Alexander and brother, George Edward Murray who also passed unexpectedly in March, 2019.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving stepdaughter, Jeanetta (KB) Baldwin; son, Edward George Murray, III; daughter, Shawanna Murray; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Emmer Greenup of Los Angeles, CA, Alice Smith, Marina Robards and Linda Murray Bullard, all of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Franklin Smith, Jr. of Van Nuys, CA and Nathaniel (Virginia) Smith of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces; nephew; cousins and other relatives. Special caregivers include Carlos Hampton, Shenita Smith, Calvin Yearby, Jr., LaWayne Armour, Issac and Daaron Espey who were all devoted to his care.

Special thanks to Kendra Kilpatrick and the entire Summit View staff.

Ed will lie in state on Saturday, June 22, after 1 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
