Dan Smith, age 87, of James Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning, June 18, 2019, at his residence.
A native Chattooga County, he was born to the late Jesse and Lucille Smith on June 6, 1932. Mr. Smith was a contractor for 45 years, a member of New Faith Tabernacle, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Bing Smith on Feb. 21, 2014. He was also preceded in death by sons, Ronnie Smith, Sr., Larry Smith, Sr.; siblings, Frances Maton, Charles Wayne, Arnold Smith; granddaughter, Joanie Mae Hathcock; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Hearlson, Alisha Rolison, and Ritchie Humphreys, Jr.
Surviving are daughters, Nelda Lindsey, Denise Ramey, Tina Hearlson, Kay Bates, Joan Hathcock, Mary Kirby; sons, Danny Colbert, Kenneth Colbert, and Michael Colbert; sisters, Charlotte Wallace and Jessie Willingham; brother, Frank Reed; 30 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; special nephews, Steven and Anthony Hamby; and special friends, Mark and Lisa Fiolich also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, at 1:30 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Brown and Rev. R. D. Craig officiating, interment in Dogwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Bates, Zachery Bates, Sr., Anthony Hamby, Steven Hamby, Timothy Holtzen, and Eddie Smith.
