Smoke Detectors Warn Walden Ridge Residents Of Fire In Crawl Space Of New Home

  • Sunday, June 23, 2019

Active smoke detectors warned Walden Ridge homeowners of a fire at their new home on Sunday.

At 2:50 p.m., a 911 call was made reporting heavy smoke and fire coming from the crawl space of the home. Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services responded to 2331 Little Bend Road and reported heavy smoke throughout the house. Firefighters cut an opening in the floors, found the fire in the crawl space and extinguished it immediately.

WRES fire officials reported the fire appears to be accidental and started from the electrical wiring in the crawl space.

Damages are estimated to be $20,000. No injuries were reported but HCEMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. WRES requested a mutual aid response from Signal Mountain Fire Department and Lone Oak VFD to cover their district for any potential emergency calls.

Active smoke detectors, quick activation of the 911 system and the fast response of WRES fire personnel were credited with saving the $500,000 home from burning to the ground.
