Claude Jefferson Smith
Claude Jefferson "C.J." Smith, of Red Bank, was born on March 9, 1923, and went to be with his Lord on June 23, 2019.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served in World War II in the South Pacific area and later retired from TVA and Ernest Holmes Company. Mr. Smith was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, the Red Bank Masonic Lodge #717, the Chattanooga Scottish Rite, and was a former Post Commander of the American Legion Post 236 in Red Bank.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary H. Smith, sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Tim Gooden, and daughter-in-law, Debra Smith.
He is survived by his three sons, David Brian Smith of McDonald, TN, M. Alan (Pat) Smith of Franklin, TN, and Keith M. (Jane) Smith of Chattanooga; 5 grandsons, Travis Smith of Knoxville, Chris and Andy Smith of McDonald, Tn., and Carlton and Matthew Smith of Chattanooga; his granddaughter, Amber Smith of Franklin, Tn.; a niece, Susan Gooden; nephews, Mike and Mark Gooden and their families; caregiver of eight years, Carla Myers, and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace.
A chapel service will be held on Thursday, June 27, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a military graveside service to follow at 12:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery of Chattanooga.
