John W. Young, Jr.
John W. Young, Jr., 84, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 in Kindred Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served six years. He was an X-ray technician. John worked for various doctors and hospitals in Los Angeles County for 40 years. He played the lead guitar and was a member of many bands in Chattanooga in the 1950's. John was very talented, and loved music and photography.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Young of Chattanooga; parents, John W. Young, Sr. and Doris Harp of Gadsden AL.
Survivors include his brother and two sisters, Garry Young, Norma Young and Kim Young originally from Chicago IL. He is survived by his three children, Darryl Young, DeAdra “Dee” Young, both of Los Angeles, and Robbin Copeland of Chattanooga, two grandchildren, Sherri Young Dixson and Michael Copeland; 2 great-grandchildren Ayanna Utley and Myles Dixson, all of Chattanooga; and host of friends and other relatives in Los Angeles and Chattanooga.
A special thank you to his daughter, DeAdra “Dee” Young for her loving and compassionate care of her father during the last years of his life. Her dedication and support is so greatly appreciated.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at 1:45 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518. Flowers and condolences are welcome. Send to DeAdra Young 4065 Ursula Avenue #2, Los Angeles, CA 90008.
