green|spaces' Empower Offers Classes On Saving On Power Bills

  • Friday, June 28, 2019
green|spaces' Empower Chattanooga teaches residents of Chattanooga low cost and no cost ways to reduce their utility bill. Empower views energy use and affordability of utilities as having a direct affect on quality of life in Chattanooga.

This July, green|spaces has three workshops lined up for the community:
July 1st / Glass House / 6:00 p.m.
July 12th / The Bethlehem Center / 10:00 a.m.
July 23rd / Bridge City Community Church / 5:30 p.m.

In many households, the money saved on utilities will ease tight budgets for families that currently are forced to make tradeoffs between healthy food, home payments, utilities, and health care.
Furthermore, every dollar saved in energy efficiency goes straight back into the neighborhood, improving economic opportunities.

"I’m very grateful to have attended the Empower workshop. I learned so much. To discover all the hidden places my house may be seeping air amazed me," said  Ameasha Rakestraw, Empower Chattanooga attendee. "This workshop is so vital to educating others on how to simply do a few maintenance techniques and save money on energy within our homes and businesses."

Empower will also host classes for church, neighborhood groups, or other associations which can be scheduled by calling their office.

green|spaces also works with Build It Green (BIG) and corporate sponsor EPB on their new work program. The 12 week program will prepare young adults from low-income communities for entry level jobs in the energy services field, while equipping them to engage low-income residents in sustainability practices and programs, particularly best practices in residential energy efficiency and weatherization programs. They are currently seeking applicants for their 4th round. Interested individuals can contact Christian at christian@greenspaceschattanooga.org or calling 423-648-0963.

BIG graduates are partnered with a contractor to have an apprenticeship that focuses on making home improvements and energy upgrades that will save homeowners money on their energy bills.

Both BIG and Empower Chattanooga are supported by individual donations, Corporate Sponsors including EPB, TVA and Office Furniture Warehouse and grants from the Southeast Sustainability Community Fund, Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga and City of Chattanooga.
