KODAK, TN The Tennessee Smokies (28-32) could not get past the Chattanooga Lookouts (33-26) or the weather in a 6-1 loss cut off after six innings at Smokies Stadium due to rain on Friday night.
The Lookouts jumped on the board early. In the second, Gavin LaValley ripped a one-out double into left field to jump-start the inning.
Two batters later, Calten Daal ran the score to 2-0 off a single that turned into a little league home run due to a pair of Smokies errors.
Later in the fourth, Jose Siri singled and stole a base to start the inning. He came around to score on an RBI-single from Mitch Nay to give the Lookouts an early three run cushion. Tonight was Siri's first game back from a six game suspension. He recorded two hits and came across to score two runs.
LHP Scott Moss (W, 4-2) gave the Lookouts a solid start in the series opener. He pitched all six innings and gave up only one run on just three hits. The Smokies lone run off Moss came in the fifth inning.
For Smokies starter RHP Oscar De La Cruz (L, 3-3), the sixth inning proved to be problematic. With two outs and two on, Daal delivered again for the Lookouts with a triple down the right field line to clear the bases.
In the seventh, TJ Friedl sent a no doubt solo home run deep to right field to give the Lookouts a 7-1 lead. Not one batter later the rain starting falling and because the tarp did not make it over the entirety of the infield, the game was finalized in six innings, cementing a 7-1 win for Chattanooga.
Alfredo Rodriguez went 1-4.
TJ Friedl went 1-4 with a solo home run (3).
Jose Siri went 2-3 with a steal (16) and 2 runs scored.
Mitch Nay went 1-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Gavin LaValley went 1-3 with a double and a run scored.
Calten Daal went 2-3 with a triple, run scored, and he had 3 RBI.
Scott Moss allowed a run in 6.0 innings with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Weather permitting, game two of the series will resume at Smokies Part Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
RHP Tyson Miller (3-3 2.26 ERA) gets the ball for the Smokies, while Chattanooga will start RHP Tejay Antone (7-3, 2.83 ERA).
