A new rehab facility called the Orthopaedic Rehab Center of Chattanooga is set to open June 17. This center will become Chattanooga’s only in-patient short-stay facility to provide rehab therapies exclusively for patients who have had total knee or hip joint replacement surgery.
The rehab center is in East Brainerd at 2626 Walker Road on the campus of The Health Center at Standifer Place. Set apart from the skilled nursing facility, ORCC has a dedicated parking lot and entrance, and a rehab gym located within the unit, exclusively dedicated to ORCC patients.
Unlike any other facility in the Chattanooga area, eight of the nine the patient rooms are suites which provide a private room for the patient and a connecting private room for a family member’s overnight stay at no additional charge.
Dr. Michael Tew, orthopedic surgeon and medical director of ORCC, says the center will be a great benefit and success for total knee or hip replacement patients, their families, and for the treating surgeon. “Our mission is to provide quality rehab for the total hip and knee patient with excellent outcomes. Our goal is a 7-10 day stay. ORCC is designed to give the total joint replacement patient a great opportunity to get the most out of a short in patient rehab stay and make the transition home successful.
"All the trained staff at ORCC are very excited to provide outstanding care and rehab focused on the total joint replacement patient. We will use standard protocols for the rehab unit but are happy to accommodate surgeon specific orders. Seven day a week therapy treatments by licensed and specialized therapists will be provided. A physician and/or nurse practitioner will see patients daily in the unit to manage medical comorbidities, and an orthopedic surgeon will round weekly. ORCC’s interdisciplinary team will evaluate the patient’s plan for post discharge follow-up with their PCP. If needed, the team will provide continuity of care in their homes post discharge."
ORCC will begin accepting patients on Monday, June 17. ORCC can be viewed at www.orcchattanooga.com, and they can be reached by phone at 490-2221.
