A one-day special needs family conference on the importance of advocacy and engagement will be held Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The free event is sponsored by Cerebrum Connections and A Song in the Storm film documentary. It will be held at Hillside Baptist Church at 6311 Dayton Blvd.
Hosting this event will be Pastor and Mrs. Steve Cape, who understand the importance of families advocating and staying engaged on behalf of a loved one. For 25 years the Capes have aided their oldest daughter Heather Cape, who has lived with multiple health issues, which includes two rare diseases and also lives with just one-half of her brain. The Cape’s daughter also has epilepsy and has had hundreds of thousands of seizures. Heather has been seen by over 1,000 health professionals and has been treated in 13 different hospitals.
This conference will teach participants how a family can advocate for their loved one and encourage them to stay highly engaged with those who provide care for their loved one.
