Sonja Denise Stewart, 56, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at her residence.  

She was a graduate of Brainerd High School and a member of Olivet Baptist Church.  She was formerly employed by Standifer Place. 

Sonja was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Helen Stewart.  

Survivors include five beautiful children, Jeremy Reynold, Kenya Billups, Serenity Sparks, Kurious Strickland, and Unique Strickland; two grandchildren; sister, Holly Sutton; brothers, Tarvin Jernard and Garry Rollins; uncle, Lloyd Darby; aunt, Parmella Landers, a host of cousins; best friend, Janice Wellington and other friends.  

She will lie in state on Friday, July 12, after 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 13, at 1 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church with Bishop Kevin Adams, Sr. as the eulogist.  

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

A small plane crashed on Wednesday at Cagle Mountain near Dunlap. Authorities said the pilot was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital. He was described as in his mid-to-late 50s or 60s.
