Walter Pendergrass, Jr., 80, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his residence.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. Walter retired from the City of Chattanooga after many years of service. He was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Keith Pendergrass, Sr.; and sister, Barbara Jean Wigfall.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Pendergrass; son, Orlando D. Pendergrass, Sr. of Chattanooga; daughters, Kristy Pendergrass of Austin, TX, Sandra Faye (Alphardo) Heard, Thedra Pendergrass, and Thembi Huff, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Akayla (Lior) Weiss, Deja Means, Kennedi Brooks, Angela Long, Tanesha Armour, Anthony DeBardelaben, Orlando Pendergrass, Jr., Jason Pendergrass, Shandra Pendergrass, and Takila Pendergrass; nieces, Audrey High and Sharon Thomas; nephews, Charles (Satann) Thomas, Sr. and Ronnie (Sheila) Thomas; several great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
He will lie in state on Friday, July 19, at 9 a.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Samuel Jackson as the eulogist.
