  • Monday, July 15, 2019

The man who was shot and killed after complaining about noise at a Dalton motel has been identified as 36-year-old Gregory Eugene Walker of Ringgold.

Dalton Police said he was shot and killed when he barged into the room of 23-year-old Jaycob Rory Kelsey of Dalton.

Police were first called to the Motel 6 at 2200 Chattanooga Road at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Saturday on a report of a disturbance in progress. The man who would later be shot was staying in a first floor room and called in a noise complaint about the rooms above his. When officers arrived, they found the occupants of the rooms in question asleep and found no evidence of a disturbance or excessive noise. After leaving the scene the first time, officers were called back to the motel when the man complained about noise coming from a different room, which officers found to be vacant.

Approximately an hour later, at about 3:20 a.m., witnesses told police that the man still believed the upstairs occupant was making noises and went upstairs and began banging on the door of Room 226 and trying to enter the room.

Witnesses told police he made threatening statements, saying that he was going to “(mess) them up.” The occupant of Room 226 was armed with a handgun and, when the man tried to force his way into the room, the occupant shot him multiple times. He then began to render aid to the man shot, putting pressure on his wounds.

A 911 call was made at 3:27 a.m. and officers and EMS responded to the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and detectives were called to investigate.

This incident is still being investigated. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information is asked to please contact Detective Scott Murray at 706-278-9085 extension 9148.
