A Chattanooga man has been charged with aggravated robbery after he allegedly robbed a couple at gunpoint last Friday.

According to police, a couple had just left JJ’s Bohemia bar and were about to walk back to their car. At that point, Lelwin Durell Fields, 46, walked up to the couple with a gun in hand.

Fields then stole the female’s cell phone and makeup bag, racking his gun several times when he thought she was moving too slowly. He also took the man’s “supreme” bag containing $150 in cash.. Afterwards, Fields backed away slowly and left the scene.

After this sequence, the man who had been robbed got into his car and began following Fields. Fields briefly stopped by some bushes before continuing to walk away. The robbery victim soon flagged down a nearby police officer and told the officer of what had just occurred.

The officer found the suspect hiding behind a red pickup truck and arrested Fields at Patten Parkway. The suspect was in possession of the couple's belongings.

While the suspect did not have a gun on him, police later found a firearm in the bushes where Fields had briefly stopped. The firearm turned out to be an airsoft gun.

Fields was then taken into custody. He requested to go to the hospital, and his wish was granted. After being released from the hospital, Fields, who has an extensive criminal record, was transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
